School canceled for Aug. 21 due to eclipse; Preschool start date pushed back to Aug. 22

eclipse

MCPS Superintendent Taylora Schlosser announced last night at the Board of Education meeting that school will be canceled on August 21 in Marion County due to the solar eclipse.

Schlosser cited safety concerns for the decision to cancel school and noted that many other school districts have done the same.

Additionally, the Preschool start date will be pushed back to August 22 in Marion County.

Despite the cancelation of school, the solar eclipse provides a tremendous educational opportunity for students in Marion County.

Students and parents can visit https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/ for more information on safely viewing the eclipse.
