WAVE 3 to air story on MCPS and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library October 5

WAVE 3 anchor Shannon Cogan chats with Glasscock Elemenary student Evelyn Murphy.

WAVE 3 television in Louisville visited Marion County Public Schools to produce a segment on the school district’s affiliation with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library , which provides free books to children up to age five.

Anchor Shannon Cogan sat down with students at Glasscock Elementary who have received free books as a part of the program, to talk about their favorite stories, characters, and receiving the books each month.

According to Cogan, the segment will air Thursday, October 5th on the 5 pm newscast.

Since the program began locally, over 500 children have enrolled and MCPS has delivered nearly 2,000 free books across the county.

“We’re really lucky to be a part of this program,” MCPS superintendent Taylora Schlosser said. “And the Marion County Public Library and the Friends of the Library have been great to work with [...] every child that participates is basically getting an entire library of books -- all free.”

In order to participate, parents must fill out a registration form found at the Marion County Board of Education office.  Registration can also be completed online at www.imaginationlibrary.com.
