Let MCPS know what you're reading this summer

Marion County Public Schools wants to know:  What are you reading this summer?   MCPS is asking students and parents to show off their summer reading selections by posting pictures on social media of summer readers of all ages along with the hashtag #MCPSreads.  Those who participate can also tag MCPS on Facebook @MarionCountyPublicSchools and Twitter @MCPS_KY.   “Summer’s a great time to pick up that book you’ve been meaning to get to,” superintendent Taylora Schlosser said.  “And not just for young people.  We want readers of all ages to be involved and let us know what they’re reading this summer.”   Participants who use the hashtag #MCPSreads will also be entered into a drawing for prizes.   Some MCPS employees have already got in on the action.     Schlosser is reading James Patterson’s Cross the Line, which she calls “a real page-turner.”   Young people in the county shouldn’t be at a loss for reading materials, as MCPS is currently involved in three different literacy initiatives that provide free books:  Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Scholastic’s My Books Summer program, and a PreSchool Summer Readiness Program.     “I don’t want our students to just think of reading as a school-related activity,” Schlosser added. “It should really be a fulfilling, life-long habit.”
