WMES receives Honorable Mention for 2017 Kentucky Winners' Circle

West Marion Elementary School was one of 22 schools from across the state to receive Honorable Mention in the Kentucky Department of Education’s Winner’s Circle -- a designation reflecting outstanding teaching and learning conditions.

“WMES is excited to be recognized with such an honor,” principal Robby Peterson said.  “The staff goes the extra mile in providing students an excellent education in an incredibly positive and welcoming environment.   This is done with positive relationships between staff, parents, students and the entire West Marion Community.”

KDE selected 10 schools for the Winners’ Circle designation, in addition to the 22 Honorable Mentions, based on the 2017 Teaching, Empowering, Leading, and Learning (TELL) survey results.  The anonymous survey asks questions regarding school leadership, teacher leadership, and facilities and resources among other topics.

“This recognition says volumes about the positive culture that’s been cultivated at West Marion,” MCPS superintendent Taylora Schlosser said. “And that’s a result of having some really outstanding teachers and administrators in that building.”

According to a press release from KDE, the Winners’ Circle schools were selected through a four-phase process and were “identified by the New Teacher Center and TELL Steering Committee to represent each of the State Board/Judicial Districts, two at-large schools and one technology center.”
