Marion County’s Community Learning Center is looking to stock up as the holiday season approaches. For the second year, the Community Learning Center will house a food pantry available to MCPS families in need.
“You see so many people helping others when you have project like our pantry,” 21st Century site director Leanna Stewart said. “It's amazing how much it's grown since we've started this project 6 months ago. We've had several families utilize the pantry over the last month and I don't think it will slow down during the holiday season.”
For ELL Resource Teacher Stephanie Gootee, the food pantry is just one of the ways that the Community Learning Center can help MCPS families.
“The Community Pick and Pack Pantry is a resource dedicated to providing school families with food and toiletry supplies, assisting them with the physical demands of daily living so appropriate focus can be redirected toward student academics,” ELL Resource Teacher Stephanie Gootee said.
Those looking to make donations to the food pantry, supplies -- including canned good and toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, and shampoo -- can be dropped off at the the Community Learning Center, which is located at 214 N. Harrison St.
Families in need, can contact the Community Learning Center or the Family Resource and Youth Service Center about taking advantage of the opportunity.
