5th graders attend Farm to Fork event; FFA members serve as student volunteers

FARM2FORK

Marion County elementary students recently got a day of agriculture education at the annual Farm to Fork day held at the Marion County extension office.

Fifth grade students from all of the district’s elementary schools rotated in small groups to a variety of sessions aimed at educating them on local food production.

Also on hand were some of Marion County High School’s FFA members, who were serving as volunteers at the event and helping chaperone the fifth graders to each session.

“These kids, if they see what this is all about maybe when they get into high school they’ll be involved in local agriculture or join FFA,” MCHS senior Hank Hardin said.

Hardin serves on the FFA’s Executive Council with stakeholder engagement.

"I work with the community to try and get more people involved,” Hardin said. “FFA, in my opinion, is the best club in Marion County -- you learn a lot about where your food comes from and how it gets on your plate.”
