Reyes named Student Ambassador of the Week

Marion County High School senior Fernanda Reyes has been named the MCPS Student Ambassador of the Week by ambassador advisors Laurie Followell and Troy Benningfield.

“Fernanda’s enthusiasm is constant,” Followell said. “I have seen her lead tours, teach students, and give speeches with an energy and professionalism that is a pleasure to watch. She is always one step ahead, more than ready for her ambassador responsibilities. Her time as an ambassador has undoubtedly made our program stronger.  Fernanda has a natural way of making all people feel at ease. She truly can handle any situation, and we are extremely glad that she shared her talents with us.”

This is Reyes’ third year as a student ambassador.

“Fernanda represents our program and community with a great deal of pride,” Benningfield said. “She proves it time and again in the classroom, on the field in the high school marching band, in the superintendent’s Shied Project group, and as a member of the student ambassador executive council. She has been instrumental is growing our program. “

Reyes has been very involved in both the student mentorship partnership at Marion County Middle School and the Young Leaders’ Conference.

“The Young Leaders’ Conference is a program that also brings out the best in kids […] it shows them that even at young age you can be a leader,” she said. “My favorite thing about being an ambassador would probably be seeing smiles on kids’ faces.”

Reyes also noted the importance of community outreach through the ambassador program.

“Student Ambassadors has really pushed me to be a better leader because it shows me characteristics of what exactly it takes to be a great leader and how you can bring the school and community together,” she said.

Reyes is the daughter of Kenya and Edgar Reyes.
