Spelling words this week continue to work on r controlled vowel sounds as in air and fear. ABC order and sentences will be due on Friday as usual. However, from this point on all spelling sentences and ABC order need to be in cursive. ****If we happen to miss school on a Friday due to weather students will take their spelling test on the first day we return back to school!
We are working on chapter 6 multiplication facts 6-9’s. Students are learning different strategies to find their answers to these upper facts. However, nothing can beat knowing these facts for quick recall. Most students are taking this seriously and working hard to master the facts that are required for the week. Unfortunately this is not the case for some. This will show quickly if the students know their facts well or not.
***This Friday students will retest over any set of facts they haven’t mastered 0-5’s! Students know who they are. It is the expectation that all students should have mastery of 0-5’s before Christmas Break.
Holiday Service Project:
Once again Calvary Elementary students, faculty, and staff will be organizing the Caring Place donation. This year third grade students are being asked to donate an item or items from this category: laundry soap, fabric softener sheets, mouthwash, socks (women and children), bedding sheets, and younger children’s toys. Any of these items can be brought in at any time. Thanks to the ones who have already sent their items in. It is very much appreciated! The deadline for turning in items is Wednesday, December 19, 2018.
Students were given a study guide for chapter 2 two weeks ago. Please review this with your child. The test will be tomorrow Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
On Wednesday, December 19 is our scheduled Christmas party. We will be exchanging gifts for those who would like to participate. Remember that girls bring in a girls gift and boys bring in a boys gift. Please stay in the $5-$7 price range. Also if you would like to send in a bag of candy, cookies, or chips it would be greatly appreciated. Please do not send these in until the last week before Christmas Break.
Under the direction of Mrs. Spalding and Mrs. Keeling, our annual Christmas play, “Karaoke Christmas”, will feature students from our class and Mrs. Young’s classroom. It will be held on Monday December 17 at 6 pm for the night performance. We will also have a daytime performance that same day at 1:30 pm that you are welcome to come to as well. Just a heads up that if you are wanting to video tape the play the daytime performance would be much easier to do since there will not be the crowd of people.
At this time of the year your child’s school supplies are getting in bad shape. Many supplies are lost, broken, or missing. As you are Christmas shopping a few suggestions that your child needs:
- 8 pack or 24 pack of crayons
-ear buds (many students are using the class set and there is a huge risk of spreading head lice by doing this).
-December 3-14------MAP Testing Round 2
-December 17---------Christmas Play @ 1:30 and 6:00 pm for parents
-December 18----------Visit from Santa
-December 19----------End of 2nd 9 weeks
