Spelling words contain r-controlled vowels spelled with ur, or, ir, and er. Spelling sentences and ABC order are due by Friday. This is an area that needs improvement. Students are not writing third grade sentences and they are messy. Also, students are putting off this assignment until Thursday night when they have all week to work on this. That is probably why their work is unacceptable.
****If we happen to miss school on a Friday due to weather students will take their spelling test on the first day we return back to school!
We are working on chapter 6 multiplication facts 6-9’s. Students are learning different strategies to find their answers to these upper facts. However, nothing can beat knowing these facts for quick recall. Most students are taking this seriously and working hard to master the facts that are required for the week. Unfortunately this is not the case for some. This will show quickly if the students know their facts well or not.
Holiday Service Project:
Once again Calvary Elementary students, faculty, and staff will be organizing the Caring Place donation. This year third grade students are being asked to donate an item or items from this category: laundry soap, fabric softener sheets, mouthwash, socks (women and children), bedding sheets, and younger children’s toys. Any of these items can be brought in at any time. Thanks to the ones who have already sent their items in. It is very much appreciated! The deadline for turning in items is Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
NTI Snow Day Packets:
Last Friday students were sent home days 3-5 non-traditional instructional (NTI) snow day packets. Please locate the envelope that the day 1 and 2 were sent home in and place the new copies for day 3-5 inside. Please keep up with these important assignments. I have had some students already complete day 1 and 2 and I have checked them off. You can work on this ahead of time if you would like. However, we may not be guaranteed that we will be using these at all. But if you do the days ahead of time you will be free on the day the superintendent calls for an NTI day.
Last week we will took our second round of MAP Testing. This is a predictive assessment that lets us know how students would likely perform on the end of the year test.
Friday, December 15 is our scheduled Christmas party. We will be exchanging gifts for those who would like to participate. Remember that girls bring in a girls gift and boys bring in a boys gift. Please stay in the $5-$7 price range. Also if you would like to send in a bag of candy, cookies, or chips it would be greatly appreciated.
Under the direction of Mrs. Spalding, our annual Christmas play, “Santa’s Rocking Christmas Eve”, will feature students from our class and Mrs. Clark’s classroom. It will be held on Monday December 11 at 6 pm for the night performance. We will also have a daytime performance at 1:30 pm that you are welcome to come to as well. Just a heads up that if you are wanting to video tape the play the daytime performance would be easier to do since there will not be the crowd of people.
