ABOUT ME:  I have a Bachelor's degree from Campbellsville University in Middle School Education with an emphasis in the areas of Language Arts and  and Social Studies.  After completing my undergraduate studies I then went on to earn my master's degree in Special Education.  I have been teaching at Lebanon Middle school for thirteen years.  I  am married with two children (Collin and Chloe) and a yorkie (Teddy).  In my spare time I enjoy reading and taking trips with my familty to new and exciting places.

Dear Students and Parents,

I would like to take this time to welcome you and your child to my classroom.  I am very pleased to have you in class this year and am looking forward to getting to know you better.  It is my hope that through teamwork and communication you will have a succesful year here at L.M.S.  I am very excited about this year and have high expectations that great things are going to take place.

With all the excitement of getting back into a new school year there is so much that we as parents, teachers, and students must reacquaint ourselves with.  To do this I would like to briefly outline for you what will be covered throughout the school year.

Social Studies in 6th grade will focus on the world and its people.  We will spend time covering geography, culture, government, and economics around the world.  Students will be expected to be active participants in the learning process.  We will learn about content through a variety  of different  mediums.  Students will participate in hands on projects that make use of technology important for 21st century learning to take place, create content driven writings, as well as read a variety of different types of content focused literature in order to make connections across the curriculum.  Core content will be addressed throughout the year.

Each student will be responsible for keeping a folder that will contain a nine week grading sheet in it.  In addition to infinite campus students and parents will be able to see grades and missing work at any time by checking for this sheet in student folders.  Students will update these weekly.  Unit packets and writings will also be located in these folders.  In addition to folders students will be required to have a notebook for bellwork.  They will complete bellwork daily in class and will turn these in to be graded periodically.

I look forward to having a great school year with you.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at  (270)692-3441 or by email  Kelly.allen@marion.kyschools.us

Sincerely,

Kelly Allen
