Student and Staff Page of the Month November 2019 WMES 5th grade students welcomed Senator Jimmy Higdon to our school to discuss government.  Girls on the Run Fall 2019 These students have met a goal in AR!  All had at least 70 points at the end of September!  Congratulations to these hard-working students! Thomas 4th: 1st Macy, 2nd Landen and 3rd Stephen Fourth grade students competed weekly to complete multiplication facts in a minute. Congratulations to these classroom "Mad Minute" Madness Champions: Aubrey, Savannah, and George. 9 (Sawyer) and 10 (Isaac) year old 4-H speech champions. Congratulations to these fourth grade students who were February classroom leaders for our DreamBox Learning Program! WMES students, Kenlee and Connor (3rd graders), are S.T.L.P. state champions in the KY Travel category with their presentation and video about Marion County. WMES students receive recognition for Conservation Posters.

McKenna T- 3rd place in school After learning about how long people and animals could survive in space, 3rd grade students completed the Mystery Science Activity “Astronaut-in-Training.” Congratulations to these fourth grade students who were January classroom leaders for our DreamBox Learning Program!  These WMES students met an AR goal of at least 50 points (1st-3rd grades) or at least 65 points (4th-5th grades) in the 2nd 9 weeks.  Pictured are Kylie, Miley, Jacob, Sophia, Grayson, Eli, and Amelia.  Congrats to these hard-working students! Sophia, a 3rd grader at WMES, won a Singsation Solo Deluxe 5-in-1 karaoke system!  She was selected out of thousands of students in KY who completed in Achieve3000’s Make the Break holiday contest. 4th graders at WMES investigated what it takes to make an object’s shadow move, tying this to the relationship of the sun’s position in the sky to the size and direction of shadows. West Marion would like to congratulate 5th grader Layla  on winning our school's "AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year" essay contest. Layla's essay is now eligible to be selected to go on to the next level of the competition! Way to go Layla! 4th graders are learning how sound waves travel through matter. Michaela D. and Tristen H. were selected to sing in the KMEA Kentucky Children’s Chorus that will perform in February at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.  This is a great honor since almost 700 students auditioned to be part of the 200 member choir. These students surpassed AR goals for the first nine weeks (primary-50 points, intermediate-65 points). West Marion Elementary would like to recognize the following PAGES of the Month for October. These students exhibit a can-do attitude each day at school! Congratulations to the Mid Kentucky Youth Football Champions! Wearing orange for Ava 4th graders at West Marion were “enlightened” as they built electric circuits to understand how electricity travels along a path.  Grandparents' Day lunch at WMES Mrs. Kaminski’s class is putting a cap on drugs for Red Ribbon Week! Idiom parade at WMES West Marion Elementary 4th grade book character pumpkins Mr. Peterson visited with Loretto Head Start and read Curious George's Dinosaur Discovery and What Principals Do When No One is Looking.  Remember to always read twenty minutes a day! Fifth graders and WMES staff participated in Ham Days events in Lebanon. The 3rd and 4th graders at West Marion visited the University of Louisville on Thursday where they were given a quick tour and attended a show inside the planetarium. West Marion 4th graders in Mrs. Scott's classroom enjoy a cool treat from the PTO Kona Ice Fundraiser.
