Hello MCHS students and families,

The first day of school is this Wednesday! We are excited to welcome you back to school. This year will be interesting, as construction continues at MCHS. We will all work together to ensure the start of school is smooth.

If you have not already done so, be sure to login to the student/parent portal of Infinite Campus. Here you will find the most up to date student schedules. Please be patient as they may have changed, and may continue to change, based on renovation needs. We have classes being taught at MCHS, MCATC, and MCKA for the start of this school year, and those locations will be noted on your student schedule. https://kyede8.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/marion.jsp

Many of you have asked about an open house at MCHS. Unfortunately, our building just hasn’t been ready for that. We know that all students will have questions about class locations and how to get to those locations. We will all work together to figure it out! On Wednesday morning, we will begin our day meeting with students to review locations, building entrances and exits, and shuttles to and from different buildings on campus.

When students arrive on Wednesday morning, they will receive a printed copy of their schedule that will include an updated map of the building. Staff will be in the gym that morning handing them out.

You may be worried about what arrival will look like Wednesday morning. Here are the 3 possible scenarios:

1. Bus Riders – These students will be picked up at their designated locations and will be dropped of at the back patio (same as previous years).
2. Student Drivers – MCHS student drivers who will be parking in our lot will enter campus from Danville Highway (next to the marquee sign). This is the only entrance students are permitted to use. Staff will be there to direct students on where to park. We will also have a student driver meeting on the first day to share more info. Don’t worry about a parking tag on day one. We will get all of that sorted out.
3. Car Riders (parent/family drop-off) – This is the scenario with the most change. If you are dropping a student off for school you MUST enter the MCATC entrance and follow the hill down to the back of the MCHS parking lot. There will staff there to direct you. Be patient as you will be stopped in the event of bus traffic passing through. Do NOT attempt to enter campus from MCKA or Danville Hwy. You will be re-routed. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work through this.

Students may still complete the schedule change request form. Schedule changes may be made through this Friday. After Friday, no schedule changes will be permitted. You must use the form to request a schedule change. Schedule change requests based on teacher or class location will NOT be honored. https://tinyurl.com/yf4bw4n7

Visitor Parking – If you need to access MCHS during school hours (between 8:15am and 2:30pm), you will need to park in the diagonal bus lanes behind the building and enter the building through the back foyer doors. No one will be permitted to park along the curb at the back of the building as we will have shuttle buses running all day. Access to the building will be incredibly limited during drop-off and dismissal.

School Dismissal - 3 possible scenarios

1. Bus Riders – Bus pick up will be similar to previous years. If students have bus questions, we can address those the first day. Be sure to ask those questions.
2. Student Drivers – Drivers will report directly to their vehicles and will be dismissed after the bus lanes clear. Staff will be in the parking lot to let student drivers know when to exit. No driver should move their vehicle until instructed by a staff member to do so.
3. Car Riders (parent/family pick-up) - If your student ends their day at MCKA or MCATC, please plan to pick them up at those locations. Doing so will be quicker and more efficient, as you can avoid MCHS traffic. If your student is being picked up at MCHS, you MUST enter the pick-up line using the MCATC entrance. No pick-up traffic will move until the bus lanes are cleared. This means your student will not be able to immediately come to your vehicle. This process will be much slower. Prepare yourself for delays. Staff will be in the parking lot to direct traffic. Any parent/family member who creates a safety concern by not following staff instructions will be addressed by our School Resource Officer. We all have to work together to ensure student safety during student dismissal.

Take some time to review the information and images provided by the district regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures. https://www.marion.kyschools.us/article/797840
