Let's start with some digital art from our students!

Our 6th grade art students were introduced to the world of Graphic Design. They looked at the work of Adam Bertels and talked about the role Graphic Designers play in designing a business. Students created an imaginary business and designed a sticker and t-shirt for the business using the website Pixlr.
Our 7th graders were introduced to the artist Chuck Close and learned about the painting style Pointillism, a technique in which the artist uses the same shape over and over again to create an image. Typically they would complete this project using paint and q-tips in class; however, since students are remote, they completed it using Google drawings (sorry for cutting off the bottom of the images!).

Announcements from the Office

Important - Parents, our term ends on January 22nd. We will be posting grades and printing report cards. It is so important for students submit all missing work before January 22nd. Please check Infinite Campus to make sure your child has completed all assignments. If you do not have access, call the school and we can help you. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teachers.

Because the term ends on 1/22, your child will have a new exploratory class starting Monday, 1/25! If we are still virtual, your child should be automatically enrolled in the new Google classroom. I will send the classroom codes for the exploratory classes in next week's newsletter.

There is no school on Monday, January 1/18.

Attention to our 7th grade parents! Please mark your calendar for a virtual scheduling night from MCKA on February 4th at 6:00 pm. You can learn about the MCKA curriculum and the elective pathways. They will send out a Zoom link closer to that date.

School pictures have been rescheduled for February 1st and 4th.

The MCMS Academic Team is competing in the District Governor’s Cup competition on Saturday! All students competing need to be signed on to the Zoom meeting by 8:15 AM Saturday morning. Good luck to all students involved!!

Announcements from the Classroom
6th grade ELA, both houses - We have been working on character perspective this week and will finish up next week. Please continue to check Infinite Campus for missing work and get those assignments completed and turned in so that we can update your grades. We also have several students that have failed to complete their Digital Driver's License. We worked on this at the beginning of the school year. This is a district requirement. Since the district provides each student with a Chromebook, students in 6th grade must complete this 3 lesson program to understand the responsibilities of being a good digital citizen. Please check with your student or your student's ELA teacher to ensure that this has been completed!

Lancelot ELA - As part of Playlist 5, students will be presenting their group Holocaust Museum presentations on Wednesday. Each student should have their part of the group presentation completed on Tuesday so the groups can have a day to organize their presentation and rehearse.

Chorus - Mr. Christopher has really enjoyed listening to all the wonderful recordings of "Trust, Hope, & Love." January 19-22 students should complete 5 more games in the Theta Music program, and they will also have a chorus class reflection. Students need to complete any missing work in Google Classroom. Also, they are playing some interactive music games on Google Meets this week.
