We started our day this with schoolwide Bingo this morning and then at lunch, we celebrated our September birthdays with birthday cake. It's been a great day! I told the students some of my favorite people have birthdays in September, including my husband, my son -- and our very own principal, Mrs. Mattingly!

Announcements from the Office
Terrace Metrics makeup is September 13th for students who missed it.

If your child is quarantined or absent, don't forget to check Google classroom daily!

Jr Beta members - Deposits for the upcoming Leadership Summit are due on Monday, Sept 13th. We currently have 5 spots remaining. They will be given on a first come basis.

ESS opportunities
We are now offering after school ESS from 3:30-4:30. For next week, we do not have bus transportation, but we will soon! Mrs. Wood is offering ESS for all students on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. You can pick up your child at the front of school at 4:30. She offers help for all students in all subjects!
If your child is quarantined and wants help, we have virtual ESS as well. Mrs. Wood has created a Google classroom for ESS. The code is fhkr32e. Please contact Mrs. Wood at rebecca.wood@marion.kyschools.us if your child wants to attend virtual ESS.

Important Bus Announcement
With the increase in the number of Covid cases and the need to maintain accurate seating charts, we are not going to allow students to ride home with friends on buses again this year.

Announcements from the Classroom
6th grade science - We took our first science test today, and we are starting our "Universe" unit next week.

6th grade ELA - This week we finished up our mini-unit/review of context clues. Students used context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words and used context clues to determine the correct definition of multiple meaning words based on how the word was used in the sentence. Next week we will review the difference between main idea/central idea and theme. During our library day, students will be learning how to check IC and keep track of their missing work/grades.
Students in Mrs. Wright's ELA classes will be coming home with a missing assignment report on Monday. This report is based on assignments recorded as grades in IC. This report does not necessarily reflect all missing work - only graded work in IC. Please make sure you ask for this report and have your student complete these missing assignments. When a student turns in any assignment late, it is important to add a private comment to the teacher on the assignment that states "finished" or "done." This will send me an email which lets me know that the assignment needs to be checked and the student's grade needs to be updated. I encourage you to check your child's grades on IC on a weekly basis.

Excalibur ELA - We just finished our first live scoring! The students worked hard on the writing prompt, and it was great to get to conference one on one with each student. (A live scoring is where the student completes a writing prompt with a set time limit. When they finish, students get to meet with a teacher to get instant feedback on their writing). We will have a mastery check over word meaning and perspective on Monday, 9/13.

7th grade science - We have started our unit covering body systems.

7th grade social studies - We are having an African map quiz on Monday, Sept 13th.

Monday - Chicken tenders or cheeseburger
Tuesday - Sausage or ham biscuit or pizza
Wednesday - General tso or tangerine chicken
Thursday - Chili or pizza
Friday - Fish sandwich, grilled cheese or cheeseburger
