GES Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) Director Sarah Mattingly is currently wrapping up “Bulldog Boys”, a six-week after-school program for GES boys, where students meet twice per week for snacks, activities, and games. Earlier this week, a guest speaker was on hand to lead an activity focused on recognizing and dealing with emotions. The program has also included STEM lessons, nutrition education, and other activities, many of which were led by representatives from the local extension office.

“It’s really gone well,” Mattingly said. “The best part has been watching them work together, especially during some of the STEM activities. Some of the quieter students have really started to blossom. It’s been a really positive experience especially for some of the students who are new to Glasscock this year.”

The design of the after-school program was influenced in part by results from a parent survey which showed a need for additional after-school enrichment activities.

Last spring, Mattingly offered a similar program for girls called “Girls with Purpose” and she said she’s likely to offer another program during the upcoming spring in addition to her annual summer camp.
