At the most recent MCPS Board of Education meeting, members of the board voted to amend the masking policy for students and staff, which is now noted in the updated MCPS Return-to-School Plan.

The new masking policy reads as follows:

•MCPS will review the COVID-19 Incidence Rate for Marion County
as reported by the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

When the Incidence Rate is below 50 for seven consecutive days,
masking will be recommended -- not required -- for students and
staff.

When the Incidence Rate for Marion County is at or above 50 for
seven consecutive days, masking will be required of students and
staff.

***

Currently, masking in MCPS is recommended (not required) because the county's incidence rate has been below 50 for seven consecutive days.

Students are still required to wear masks while on the school bus, based on a federal requirement for public transportation.

The new MCPS masking policy also does not apply to the Marion County Area Technology Center, which is a state-run facility.
