MCPS families, As you may already be aware, recently the Kentucky legislature chose to override Governor Beshear’s veto of SB 1, meaning that the Kentucky Board of Education’s school mask mandate will be voided in five working days. Previously, the governor had rescinded his school mask mandate. Despite these changes, students in Marion County Public Schools are still required to wear masks while at school (unless otherwise exempted) based on the MCPS Board of Education’s decision to include universal masking of students and staff at the August 9 board of education meeting, which occurred prior to the governor’s and the Kentucky School Board’s decisions.

There will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow Friday, Sept. 3 in Marion County due to the anticipated number of staff absences and lack of substitute employees available. This will NOT be an NTI day. MCPS has an unusually high number of staff members who will be absent due to a combination of illness and quarantines, and we are similarly limited in the number of substitutes available. We are calling off school to avoid any potential issues related to supervision and student safety.

Our hearts are heavy today as we share in the sadness of the passing of MCHS Football Coach Rob Reader. His spirit and joy for life made a lasting impression on all of those who knew him, both on the field and off. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his players. We should all hope to live a life as meaningful and impactful as Coach Reader.
