January Attendance Challenge
At last week’s Board of Education meeting, the board approved both the 2025-2026 school calendar (https://5il.co/35gb1) and the 2026-2027 school calendar (https://5il.co/35gb0). Moving forward, the calendar committee will approve school calendars two years in advance to give families more time to make plans around scheduled breaks. You can view all currently approved calendars and other important documents by visiting the Attendance & Health page on our district’s website: https://www.marion.kyschools.us/page/attendance-health

As you are aware, Marion County is currently under a Boil Water Advisory. In the event that this advisory is not lifted by tomorrow, MCPS is prepared to have school by taking proper precautions such as providing bottled water and covering water fountains. We’re hopeful the advisory will be lifted, but if not we wanted our families to know that it won’t interrupt our school day. We’re also checking roadways throughout the county today to make sure there won’t be transportation issues. As of now, we fully expect school to be in session tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Given the interruptions experienced so far this semester, MCPS Superintendent Chris Brady will recommend to the Board of Education that the district use Presidents Day -- Monday, Feb. 17 -- as a make-up day. Please know that changes to the school calendar are not official unless approved by the members of the Board of Education. The next Board of Education meeting is Thursday, Feb. 13. We’re sharing this information now so families are aware of this potential change to the school calendar.

Due to widespread illness, Tuesday, February 4 and Wednesday, February 5 will both be NTI Days in Marion County. Students will learn from home and teachers will be available to answer questions. Please contact your child’s school if you have questions regarding NTI assignments. Recently, attendance throughout the district has steadily declined, and based on discussions with health officials, we could likely see illness continue to spread. Please know that our school nurses and nurse practitioner will still be available to all students; for an appointment, please contact Marion County High School at 270-692-6066. We will also use these days to provide a thorough cleaning of our buildings, and we encourage you to remind your children to follow healthy practices such as washing their hands.
